You got questions? We have answers.
Lemongrass House Canada has compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions about our business and products:
1. What is an essential oil?
Essential oils are the fragrant, highly concentrated, volatile extracts from plants. Essential oils usually come from non-fatty areas such as bark, roots, stems, leaves and the aromatic portions of the plant. On their own, essential oils may be used in many different ways by adding a few drops to a diffuser, or even onto some absorbent paper to scent, freshen a room, or create a mood. They should never be applied directly to the skin.
As essential oils are highly potent you only ever need a few drops at a time. This is why they are sold in such minute volumes.
2. Can anyone use essential oils?
You should not use undiluted essential oils if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or on children under age 3. Our Kids and Mommies products have been specially formulated to make them safe to use.
3. What is the difference between pure and essential oils?
Pure oils are carrier oils, such as Almond, Sesame, Coconut & Jojoba Oil. Carrier oils are normally vegetable oils derived from the fatty parts of a plant, such as the seed, kernels or nuts.
Essential oils are the fragrant, highly concentrated, volatile extracts from plants, leaves, spices, roots, woods and fruits and they are the foundation of Aromatherapy and Lemongrass House products. Essential oils are highly concentrated and not safe for direct use on skin
We carefully blend essential oils with carrier oils to make them safe to use.
For example, we use essential oils in our shampoos, soaps and body washes as the fragrance agent but use the pure oils to make the product gentle enough and safe for the consumer to use.
4. What oils are used in aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the practice of using these natural oil extracts that some people claim enhances psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these "essential" oils may stimulate brain function and, when absorbed by the skin, they may travel through the bloodstream to promote whole body comfort.
5. Are all Lemongrass products sold around the world produced in the production facility in Thailand?
We have sourced the highest quality essential oils from around the world from carefully inspected and vetted specialists. These are blended with the carriers that have been uniquely formulated for our 1,200 spa and body care products, all by hand, one kilo at a time, at our flagship store in Phuket, Thailand
Blended products can be custom-made to produce unique bespoke fragrances by using the essential pure oils at our Thai facility.
6. If so, why?
Each product is carefully produced using exacting standards, and keeping all the production in one location allows us to control the excellence of the product.
7. Are there any health benefits in Lemongrass House products?
We make no health or cure claims about our products. We do, however, promise that you will enjoy them.
8. Why have there been no retail outlets in North and South America?
Proximity. Most of the growth in Lemongrass’ retail business initially was based on proximity to Thailand, so the first retail outlets were across Asia and Australasia. There are now outlets in Europe and the Middle East. North America is next.
9. Why was Vancouver chosen for the first Canadian store?
Founder Bobby Duchowny has ties to the city. He worked in the movie industry in Vancouver for many years and was sent to Thailand as a location scout. He fell in love with the country and decided to stay.
In the meantime, Vancouverites Maxine Druker and Ben Horne had both spent considerable time in Thailand and were fans and users of Lemongrass House products. They were successful in obtaining the Canadian distribution rights from Bobby and Vancouver was naturally everyone’s first choice.
10. Why Gastown?
Where should we begin -- its vibe? Its vitality? Its historic charm? Yes, that and more such as: its perfect demographic for our products, the tourist traffic, the smart new stores opening up from around the world and its growth in an era of little growth. In short, it is one of the most successful shopping locations in Vancouver, with many of the city’ most interesting restaurants and bars.
